Maverick Update

So last Wednesday Maverick was limping when Mom got home from work. Mom and Dad made sure Maverick rested a lot and by Saturday it seemed to be getting better. On Saturday Mom and Dad had some friends over and Mave got a little wild and by the end of the day, he was limping pretty good. On Sunday Mom was really worried because he was not using the leg at all. She was trying to find a vet that was open on Sunday and Easter, but she had no luck. They kept him quiet all day and hoped for the best. On our Monday morning walk, I knocked Maverick over and he screamed like crazy. Mom was so worried and afraid he was really injured. So Monday she contacted our vet to try and get Maverick in. They couldn't see him so Mom started calling around to different vets. She finally found Dr. Watson who could see him right away. So after school, Mom came home and threw Maverick in the car and ran off to the vet. It was his knee that was hurting and the vet thinks it's his ACL. He has been put on Rimadyl for 10 days to try and reduce inflammation and help it heal. If it doesn't get better, he needs further examination and possibly surgery. Mom is so bummed. The good news is, that he responded favorably to the Rimadyl almost immediately. They gave him a shot in the office and sent Mom home with a prescription to start the next day. By later that night he was using the leg and trying to run around like a crazy man. By the next day, he was using the leg all the time and he was running and playing and getting really crazy. So Mom is very hopeful that this will fix it and surgery won't be required. Mom keeps saying that if it was torn he would still favor it a little, and he's not favoring it at all. So here's hoping Maverick is on the mend.

It's been a rather quiet week with Maverick down. We walk in the mornings but by afternoon it is too hot to walk. Summer is definitely coming.
