Summer is over and school starts tomorrow. That means the routine is changing again. The dogs are not going to be happy about this. Also, tonight starts Men's Nights Doubles, a 2 week long tennis tournament that Hubby will be working. So he won't be around for the next 2 weeks. I'm back to school so they will be alone during the days and then the nights I work they will be alone at night too. Until 10pm. Luckily there's only 2 nights next week and 3 nights the following week that will happen. After that it's back to normal. Well, school year normal anyway. As you can imagine I'm of mixed feelings about returning. On one hand I'm glad because I'm getting tired of sitting around the house. On the other, I'm sad because I like being with my dogs all day. I think though, to be very honest, it will be a good counterpoint to working at Walgreens.
Sidebar: I have never really worked retail before and what an eye-opener it is. I can not believe how mind-numbingly boring it is. I can not believe that people make a career of this. Seriously. It took a couple of weeks to learn the ropes but now that I know them, boooorrrrrriiiiiiinnnnnnggggggg! The only things I do are the cash register and stocking - called working the floor. Working the register is so easy because the computer does the vast majority of the work. I scan the item, the computer gets the price, figures the tax and tells me how much change to give. If its a credit/debit card transaction it's even easier, I just stand there and hand them their receipt. Answer ridiculous questions about the cigarettes and cigars behind the counter. Do you have American Spirit? Do you see any back there? Do you have avo cigars? Do you know where you are? Walgreens!! Do you think we sell good cigars?? Working the floor is a bit of a joke. When you work the floor you get a small cart, fill it with boxes from the back room and walk around to see if you can put the stuff out on the shelves. If not you put the boxes back and get more boxes. It is really the most inefficient system I have ever seen in my life. Also, if you are walking around with a cart full of boxes and/or standing in an aisle looking busy, no one questions you. I have wasted more time on the floor than you can believe. I really do understand now why there are so many grumpy people in retail. If that was my main job I'd probably shoot myself. Done!!!
So yeah, hopefully the mental work of school will offset the mindless work of Walgreens. I just wish I could explain to the dogs that a change is coming, but I can't. They will just have to experience it as it happens. Poor puppies....
