One of the things that came up in the puppy class on Tuesday is dog collars. The instructor said that dogs should never wear collars unless they are in your sight. That got me to thinking. When we had Mana, Rocco, and Nala, they never wore collars unless we were going out. I'm not exactly sure how or why it started - probably had something to do with living on the ocean and them swimming all the time - but that's what happened. We would make them wear a collar as a puppy to get used to it, but after a while off it came. With Axl and Lola we left their collars on all the time, and again I'm not sure why. Anyway, the teacher said that collars have killed dogs. The collar gets caught on something, the dog freaks out and strangles itself. So last night we took Axl and Lola's collars off. I think they were a little freaked out by it but I like it better. Why wear a collar when they are just hanging around the house?? They are microchipped so they can't lose their ID ;)
The trainer also said not to let our dogs walk in a certain area when coming to class because that's where the clinic workers take the dogs to do their business. Since there are a lot of sick dogs, we don't want to expose our puppies to things. But I was thinking, how are we going to avoid that? I know Bella is going to want to go there first thing. How am I going to avoid it? Maybe I could put her in a ergo baby carrier to get her past that spot. Or maybe not.....
We are currently feeding Bella twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. In the morning she always throws up a little bile before I feed her. I'm wondering if I should feed her earlier so that doesn't happen. Hmmm....Puppies are tough. Also, around her eyes the hair is getting thin. I don't know what that is all about but it's weird. There is no indication of any problem, no redness or spots or anything, just thinning hair. It's not happening anywhere else, just under her eyes. She has a vet appointment on Friday, I guess I'll have him look at it.
