New Years Eve

is always exciting with animals.  Always.  We could tell by noise in the days leading up to New Years and in the preparation yesterday, that it was going to be wild here.  It was the last time fireworks are legal so people apparently went all out.  We put the birds to bed early and covered their windows so they wouldn't see the flashes of light.  That turned out to be a brilliant idea because there were lots and lots of flashes.  The dogs seemed to be handling it pretty well.  Lola was a little freaked out but she just stuck close to me. Axl did not seem to be bothered at all.  Some friends came over and we were sitting in the backyard watching the neighbors blow up their paychecks.  The dogs were in and out of the house but behaving pretty well. Then midnight came.  Lola seemed to be okay, she just kind of huddled up where she was.  Axl though started freaking out.  He started running around the yard and trying to stick his head under the fence.  I got concerned so I put them both in the house.  I did not want him really freaking out and busting through a fence. He would either run away or fall 15' and injure himself.  So I locked them in the house for their own safety.  I stayed outside and watched the fireworks for a while then went in to check on them.  Apparently someone got a little frightened and started chewing things like the couch cushions.  When we headed to bed we noticed some more damage in the bedrooms.  Looks like we will be looking for the mattress sales today. But I can't blame them, they handled it the best they could. This morning everyone is fine - dogs and birds, so I guess that's really all that matters. I'm just glad it's over and that fireworks are now illegal.
