I only get to take the kids to the dog park on the weekends now but I make sure that I take them because they love it. We went this morning. It's funny because they seem to know. They got all excited and sat by the car as I was getting ready. Too cute. Anyway, we get there and there are a couple of dogs there and all was good. Axl was a little hyper because we hadn't been there in a week and so he got a little over excited. But he quickly settled down and got into the flow of the dogs in the park.
One of the things that make me crazy about the dog park is the owners of little dogs. There is a fenced off section of the park that is just for dogs under 18lbs so it's not like they have to bring their little dogs into the big park. There are a couple of owners who bring their little dogs into the big area and understand that they play hard over here. They know that their dogs can handle it and all is good. But there are some who bring their little dogs over and expect the big dogs to ignore their little dogs. As someone I like to read says, Asshat!!! If you bring any dog into the park everyone is going to want to check them out. A guy came in today with 2 little guys and got all upset because my dogs wanted to play with them. He got a little pissy and I had to hold my dogs while he took his dogs back to the little park. I just figure some dogs play harder then others, big or small. If you bring your dog to the big park you have to expect it is going to get played with. If you want no one to bug them take them on Orlando vacations or something.
So we had been in the park about an hour when a greyhound came in. Axl and Lola were absolutely fascinated with him, Romulus was his name, so we hung around for a little longer. Then this guy came in with a Great Dane. My guys and Romulus really liked her. Then a couple came in with 3 more Great Danes. Ummmm.....wow... This was 4 very large dogs. My dogs could actually run under the Danes, that's how big they were. Then, suddenly, 2 of the Danes started fighting. Yikes!! The other two came running to get in it and the Greyhound got into the mix. Thankfully my two seemed totally uninterested in the fight which kind of makes me think it wasn't a real fight, but that's another post. All I could think of was how would you stop a fight between 2 or 3 125 lb dogs that are as big as horses?? At this point I decided it was time for us to leave. I had been thinking about leaving anyway but with the new dogs coming the kids were having a really good time. So I got Axl and Lola to the gate and leashed up and we headed out. As we were leaving there were 3 more Danes heading in. That would be 6 Danes in the park. Yowza!!! I now understand how the little dog owners feel when stuff happens in the big yard. It is scary to have dogs so much larger then yours running around getting pushy.
So, some extra excitement at the dog park this morning. The land of the Danes.....

A small dog section of the dog park!? Wow - haven't seen that yet! How dumb. What a great way to set up the dogs for failure.
Asshats. All of them.
Thanks for mentioning my blog. I appreciate it. I will try to return the favour in the next week or so.
