These guys are very colorful and beautiful but they are small, less than 12". They also have a pretty loud screech that gives then a reputation of being loud. They were cute and all, but not what I wanted.
I also looked at an Alexandrine parakeet and a Indian ringneck.
This is a female Alexandrine. They are parakeets but much larger then their more well known cousins. I really like these guys. They are probably about 12" long and then they have a real long tail, maybe another 6". So they are not a tiny bird. They are really cute.

These are Indian Ringnecks. They are very similar to the Alexandrine but they come in different colors. The guy I saw yesterday has a blue dad and a white mom and they are sitting on eggs. I'm hoping one of the babies is blue. If it is I'll take it. Their tails are just like the Alexandrines. In fact you can't see the rings on any of their necks, but the Ringnecks do have rings.
So that's where the bird hunt stands. I do have 2 cockatiels who are getting a nesting box this weekend. If they produce some viable eggs, I will hand raise the babies and sell them. I can get $100 a piece for tame babies. Then the 'tiels can pay for my big bird :) I also have 2 English Budgies. We may put a nest box in their home and see if they produce anything.
