New head collar
It's not a muzzle.... do you know how many pit bull owners I know who utter that statement regularly? A lot. We have been using a Gentle Leader on Lola and Axl for over a year now. These two are so incredibly strong and they pull an awful lot. The trainer we hired last year recommended the Gentle Leader and it worked well. They still pulled but at least we could walk them and they slowly got better over time. But it wasn't perfect. Also, the Gentle Leader is rather thin and they would fray fairly quickly. I was always a little afraid that they would break and the dogs would be gone. Thankfully that never happened. But a couple of weeks ago we were in PetSmart and wanted to look at the Gentle Leaders since we needed a new one. In talking to the trainer there we got talking about Halti. Hmmm... They are a little thicker than the Gentle Leaders, they also have an extra strap that hooks on to their collar. That way, if the Halti breaks you are still hooked to their collar. Sweet. Also, there is an extra little strap from the snoot strap to the neck strap. This, in theory, prevents the dog from getting the loop off it's nose. Turns out that is not exactly true. The first night Lola managed to get the nose strap off. I have since tightened the neck collar up and it seems to be holding the nose strap in place. Finally, the nose strap is padded. The Gentle Leader would leave a mark on their nose. If they pull a lot it looks like they need acne scar cream. Anyway, the Halti seems to be working in a way the Gentle Leader never did. I will do a full review after we have used them for a while, after all we may still be in the honeymoon phase.
