Time for a change

I've decided to take this blog on a slight detour.  My original plan with this blog was to just talk about animals in general.  Life with them and the various struggles and triumphs experienced along the way.  However Axl has presented me with a situation I just can not pass up.  I am determined to bring his reactivness under control and am planning to start this weekend.  As such I have decided to use this blog as a journal of my efforts.  I really feel like I can succeed and I want to document it here. I'm hoping to hook up with some other bloggers who have done similar things with their dogs and get advice and tips.  So that's what's going to be happening around here.

To start that, I am reading Scaredy Dog right now and will start doing some of the initial things tonight.  The first order of business is to find a treat that Axl is totally crazy over.  That shouldn't be too hard as he is a food nut.  Lola is going to be the harder one to crack. There are times when she is just not interested in food at all. But the first phases are going to be just working with Axl. I don't want to train both of them for the clicker because then if I click for Axl, Lola might think it's for her and she might be doing something I don't want to encourage.  So I think at first I will start with just Axl.  I will add Lola in later.  Of course, I could use another noise for Lola.  Maybe I could get something like a barcode scanner, they make those little beeps that are very different from a clicker. Who knows. I'll see, but I am definitely starting with Axl and will be documenting the progress here.
