There is a show on National Geographic Explorer next week that really looks interesting. Explorer:Fatal Insomnia. Now let us be clear, I love my sleep. Love it. I can sleep anytime, anywhere, for any amount of time. When I was an appraiser, if I had time between appointments I would find a shady spot, kick back the seat in my car and nap. I have the ability to say to myself "I'll sleep for XX minutes." I can then go to sleep and wake up in XX minutes. But given the opportunity I could sleep for days. I love it....
Anyway, why am I carrying on about this? They are investigating the sleep habits of the three-toed sloth in order to try and help humans. They actually put sleep sensors on sloths in the wild and monitor their patterns. Check out the clip:
They have never examined the sleep habits of wild animals, only animals in captivity. It looks interesting. I may have to watch it just so I can learn more about sleep.
I think we can learn a lot from looking at animals in the wild. I mean after all, we are only animals. If they could crack the code of sleep that would be awesome. I know a lot of people who suffer from insomnia - though personally I think if they get some exercise they would sleep better - but I am not a professional. Maybe they could find the cure for acne in the wild :)
In animals closer to home, Monty is regurgitating a lot. I know some birds do it out of stress or as a way to impress another bird, but I really thought it would pass by now. He is doing a lot and there was a lot in his cage tonight. If he keeps it up I'm going to have to take him to the vet to get checked out.
Okay, I'm exhausted I think I'll head off to sleep :)
