Life around the zoo

So everyone is settling in, adjusting to new schedules, learning the rules, etc.  We are back to walking the dogs regularly and they like that.  When we lived at the other house we could not walk the dogs from the house.  There were too many insane dogs on that block, including mine, so walking down that street with a dog was a nightmare.  Even the most well-balanced dog starting getting jumpy by the end of the block.  So we used to put the dogs in their carrier in the back of the truck and take them down the street to the school.  There were big grassy fields and lots of room to walk around completely unmolested by people and dogs.  We would take them around 5:30 and it was really quiet there.  Since we've moved here we are able to take them  walking right from the house.  Do you know how nice that is??  It's no longer an ordeal just to get ready to go: get the carrier ready, load it into the truck, get the dogs ready, get them in the carrier, blah, blah, blah.  Now when we are ready to go we just leash up the dogs and leave.  It is so very nice.  Plus now the dogs know their neighborhood and where they live if they do get out, like little Houdini aka: Lola.

The dogs are learning too, what to bark at, what not to bark at, etc.  For the first week or so they barked at everything.  They were the ultimate wireless security systems, barking at every little noise. They have now learned to ignore the normal noises and only bark at the unusual ones. That is much better.

Monty is adjusting too. He's becoming more comfortable with his new home and the new routines. He looks forward to breakfast in the mornings and to coming out of his cage at night. I took him to a bird club meeting yesterday and he was the hit of the meeting. Most had never seen a bird like him in real life, only in pictures.

Okay, I do believe that brings us up to date on the happenings around the homestead. Hopefully I'll be able to report the installation of a fence soon :)
