Sunday morning walks

Last Sunday we did not go for our normal walks because it was raining like crazy and, since we had the tsunami scare on Saturday we had a ton of errands to run. So this morning I got up and the dogs got all anxious. They knew it was Sunday again and they know what that means. So I took Axl first and we walked for 1 1/2 hours. He was exhausted but he does so good when he's alone. We saw 4 dogs and he had a very small reaction, at least compared to his normal insanity. We walked through the district park where there was baseball and football and tennis and kids and animals and he had a great time. He's starting to realize that all the activity doesn't have to affect him. He can just be a dog. The thing we need to work on is when I walk both of them together. When I walk Axl I use a Gentle Leader. This has helped a lot because before that he was unwalkable. But I think we've developed some habits and patterns with the Gentle Leader that it's time to break. On the last half of the walk I took off the Gentle Leader and hooked his leash on his regular collar. He walked perfectly all the way back to the truck. I think it may be time to try a different walking collar. I'm not sure what, we've used choke chaines, harnesses, I'm not sure what else is left. It might be easier to sell my timeshare. Both dogs have been exhausted all day from their walks. That's another nice thing about the walks, it makes for a quiet afternoon.....
