Obviously I'm doing this so I have a record of everything. If this works out well, which I think it will, I want to know what I did so I can repeat it and if it doesn't work out well I want to be able to tell the trainer exactly what happened and when. So I'm not writing about Axl all the time because that's all I have to talk about, it's just what's going on right now.
We didn't take them out on Tuesday because we got home too late and they usually don't get out on Wednesday because I have class. But Hubby came home early and we took them to the dog park. I was very apprehensive about the dog park because the last few times we've been there something has happened. Nothing big or drastic, but something. And of course I remember what Cesear says, the dog doesn't remember only we do. The dog is just happy to be there I'm the one carrying the baggage. Luckily we got there and no one was there. No one. I've never seen that before. So we hung around in there for about 20 minutes and then decided to walk them outside to get some practice on the leash. That was fine, we walked through an open field that borders the dog park and across the street to a canal that was full of ducks. Axl saw the ducks and started freaking a little, but we just sat there until he calmed down. It was good. As we were coming back a man had gone into the dog park with 2 huskies. We were walking along the outside when Axl spotted them. I thought, this is perfect. So we walked back and forth in front of the fence and the dogs a couple of times. Except for staring at them a little, Axl could not have cared less about them. It was wonderful to see. Also, as we were approaching the car and a lady got out of a nearby car with a dog on a leash. Axl looked at the dog but then kept moving. Really didn't care about that dog. Yea!! Progress!! I'm so excited. I've been trying to expand his horizons slightly. I figure that the more places we go where nothing happens or where he has a good time, will help build his confidence up. He'll get used to the fact that nothing is going to happen and we can all just have a good time. Also, the more times we go out and nothing happens the more he comes to trust us and that makes him more confident because he knows he can rely on us. So it's going really well and I'm so please you have no idea. I'm off now. My project today is to clean the light fixtures. It amazes me how dirty they can get.
