No more homeless pets

I was doing some reading the other night and it got me to thinking. The writer was going on about no-kill shelters. He, or she-I don't remember, was saying that we could do away with kill shelters if we had a different mind-set.

We have become used to the idea that animals are destroyed due to overpopulation. If that option was taken off the table, it was no longer possible to kill animals in shelters, we would find another way to deal with the problem. Just think, if we did not spend the money on drugs to kill animals, vets to administer the drugs, crematoriums to destroy the body, how much could be saved? With that money we could do more education, provide low/no cost spay and neuter, build sanctuaries for these poor animals.

I think it's just because that's what we've always done that makes us think there is no other way. There is always another way if you look hard enough. How many times have you wanted to do something and found that one avenue was completely shut off to you. If you wanted to do that badly enough you found another way to accomplish your goals.

We are moving to Colorado in the next year or so. One thing I want to do is open a kind of sanctuary. I don't know that I could be very big, but I definitely want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. One more sanctuary where killing is not an option can't hurt.

Providing a sanctuary for unwanted pets has always been a dream of mine - I wish you luck in your venture in Colorado.
