I'm Back

I've been out of it for the past week or so. First I was getting sick, then I was sick - really sick - now I'm on the road to recovery. Yea!!!!! Wow, I've been out longer then I thought. Anyway, that's why I haven't been dropping Entrecards or anything, cuz I've just been out of it. But I'm back now and things should get more frequent.

In the time I've been gone, we have a new addition to the family, albeit probably a temporary one. This is Brownie:

Brownie was found in someones swimming pool. They caught him and turned him into a rescue group near where they live. Unfortunately that group does dogs and cats, lots and lots of cats. So they called the wild bird people and the wild bird people called me. Since it's near where I live, I went and picked him up. By the way the him is subjective, I'm basing it on the way he acts not any real knowledge of his/her sex. I've posted notices on some of the local boards but he is not tame and his wings are not clipped, I'm thinking he was not a treasured pet. He might have been part of a breeders stock. Or maybe just a bird in a cage. Who knows?? Anyway, he's staying here right now and I'm trying to tame him. I let my 'tiels out and he can see how they are with me and hopefully he'll get the idea. We'll see.

In other news, Sammy is coming along great. He loves to come out and hang out on my desk with me. I think he's starting to trust me more and that's good. He really is a sweet bird. Umbrellas really don't have a mean bone in their body. He's not like a Moluccan which can be spiteful. He is just loving. Even when he goes to bite he doesn't really bite, he just kind of pinches. I also know he's testing me. I'm pretty sure he hasn't gotten the best treatment in the past and he's like a little child testing me to see how far he can go. That's okay. I've raised kids and can have the patience of Job when I want to :)

As for Rocco, we went to the vet on Sunday May 11. He's doing better after being on the prednisone for 2 weeks. He's going to be on the pred for 2 more weeks then we are going to put him on anti-inflammatory, Dermaxx, and see if he can function on those. The Dermaxx he can stay on indefinitely if necessary. The acupuncture along with the pred was a miracle worker. But I have to face it, we are approaching the end. He's 13 years old. That's really old for a large dog. I hate to admit it but it's true and I just have to enjoy the time I have with him. It makes me so sad to think of losing him. He's been such a huge part of my life for so long, the thought of him not being there brings me to tears. And then there's what to do about Nala. Nala has had Rocco around her whole life. I'm afraid that once he's gone she may get distructive. I'm afraid if we leave her alone she may tear the furniture apart. She is a pit bull after all. But, on the other hand, I don't want to bring a puppy in with these two being so old. I think a rambuncious little puppy would be pretty hard for them to handle. I don't know. Hopefully when it comes time I'll know the right thing to do for everyone.

Well, that brings us up to date on all the animals. I am also supposed to contact a lady about a ringneck baby. Not sure if I'm going to follow through with that, but I might. It would be nice to have a bird that talks. All these birds and none of them talk!!!
