It's always interesting bringing a new animal into the house. The are, no doubt, the outsider and it takes some time for them to integrate themselves into the flock so to speak.
Rant on: It just pisses me off no end when people refer to animals as dumb. Anyone, with half a brain, who has watched two animals interact could not say that any animal is dumb. They are intelligent, resourceful, inventive, and funny. Mr. P (the green ringneck) is fearless and pushy. Anything that's going on within his field of view he has to rush over and check out. While Ricky (the blue ringneck) is more cautious and careful. He watched from a distance first and then gradually makes his way over to the action. As a result Mr. P usually runs around with a broken tail while Ricky's is always full. Dumb they are not. Rant off.
Anyway, Tweety being an older bird, is a little more cautious and nervous then the younger ones. Every afternoon I open all the cages and the birds have a jungle of branches with toys all over it that they can climb around on and play. They generally do that for a couple of hours every day. Well Tweety doesn't come out of his cage. That's not totally true, he's fully flighted so he will come out, do a few laps around the house and then go back. It's cute and it's fun watching the other two watch him fly around. They don't fly so they don't get it. He might as well be looking for new york hotels for all they know.
It's fun watching them get to know each other and the personalities work themselves out.
