Sammy's big adventure

I've had Sammy just about a year. When I got him he had been at his former home for 12 years. The last few years the owner's life had changed. He got married, had a baby, and generally didn't have time for Sammy anymore. Sammy was relegated to living in the back yard under a plumeria tree. Luckily the owners knew this was not a good situation and they needed to find a new home for Sammy. I was lucky enough to end up with him. In that year we had some issues to work out and we still have some, but we are making huge progress. Sammy was very scared and fearful when he got here but now he's slowly gaining confidence. At first he liked being in a separate room where he could see what was going on but he wasn't in the action. Now he's wants to be right in the midst of all the action. He's really come a long way.

Today was the bird club meeting and I decided it was time to take him to one. On Friday I stopped at Target and got him a new carrier, he had destroyed his old one, and we were all set to go. He got into the carrier pretty easy but the ride over wasn't so good. In my husbands truck Sammy's carrier sits up high and he could see out the windshield. Not sure that was a good idea, but we all made it to the meeting site unscathed. I took him out of his carrier there and he was a little nervous, but clearly he was enjoying it. When all the other people and birds started arriving he got all excited and was screaming in joy. Everyone was laughing at him he was so noisy. It was good to see though. I wasn't sure how he would react and he clearly was enjoying it. He even went to a couple of other people. He had a great time and was exhausted on the ride home. Right now he's sitting in his cage resting. Poor tired birdie!!!
