Sam is an Umbrella Cockatoo. He's about 25 years old. Unfortunately the family that had him had some life changing circumstances in the last few years, and they just don't have time for Sam anymore. As a result Sam was living out in the backyard under a plumeria tree. He only got attention once in a while and started plucking his feathers. He has no feathers on his legs, the feathers on his lower body are sparse, and on his back under his wings is only down, no real feathers. He's a pretty mellow bird so I'm guessing the feather plucking is from boredom. I'm hoping that with some love and attention he'll get over it.
Right now, and for the next few days, he'll need to get adjusted to his new home, his new people, and the other animals. Hopefully, it will be a fairly smooth transition and we can take up the life I hope he can have.

Awww what a cutie. Those birds can live such a long time. I wish our dogs did too.
How nice you take care about him now! It's so sad when people don't have time for their animals anymore although I can understand this could happen easily and without bad intentions.
