Well, we have lost another parakeet. Back on January 5th we lost the Mama. I woke up one morning and she was just sitting in the corner of the cage not looking so good. About 2 hours later she was dead. We were initially worried that whatever killed her could kill the others, but they seemed fine. Since she died shortly after the babies fledged, I figured the strain of having babies killed her. Since then the 5 remaining parakeets have been fine, eating, flying around, making all kinds of noise and we forgot about it. This morning I saw the birds before I left for work and they all looked great. Tonight when I got home the Dad was dead on the bottom of the cage. No signs of illness, nothing. We got her and the Dad from a friend who got them from a friend who had gotten them from a friend......basically no one had any idea how old they were. So it's possible they died of old age. We'll be keeping a close eye on the remaining 4 and if they start to die off we'll have to quarantine them. Maybe I should get some life insurance quotesfor the parakeets...
