Wow, I just can't believe how time goes so quickly. It's been 5 days since I've posted here. Yikes!!! Anyway, time for an animal update.
First there's Rocco. He is not taking the new dogs well at all and it's great. He hates them so much that it's giving him a reason to live. He thrives now on growling and barking at them. He tries to chase them but since his rear legs don't work so well they have no trouble getting out of his way. He is definitely doing better since they arrived and that was the whole purpose.
As for the fosters. The little girl, Lola, is such a sweetie. I would keep her in a New York minute. But Axl is a whole other story. He is very, very high energy. He doesn't walk on a leash well at all. I got one of those giant prong collars, nothing. I got a gentle leader, better but he still pulls. He's also really pushy. Lola is never going to get to really develop as long as she's with Axl. I think they want to try and adopt them together but I'm going to put in a word that they may be better separated. I call Lola littls lols.. She is so adorable.
Then we have the birds. A few weeks back we lost little Ricci in a tragic accident when a branch broke. We were bummed. But fear not, we have a new Ricci.
Notice Mr. P at the bottom of the photo :)
He's turning out to be pretty cool. Everyone thinks he's a pure Ringneck but I just found out that it's possible he's a Ringneck/Alexadrine cross. The guy I got him from and one baby from that cross but he lost track of which one it was. We have noticed that Ricci is fairly large so it's possible it may be him. I guess we shall see.
Now it's on to the Bulbuls. On May 4th we were on day 13 of a 10-12 day watch. Since the incubation doesn't start until the mom starts sitting on the eggs, I realized that I could have been off a day or two so I didn't panic. but the last few days I have not seen the mom at all. I've been watching the nest and I've seen no one around it now for almost a week. I finally decided that they had given up on the eggs and went to look. This is what I found:
Now at one time I know there were 4 eggs in there and I know no babies hatched so I'm not sure what happened to the other two eggs. I pulled them out of the nest for a closer look and the first thing that struck me is how small they are:
Just so you can really appreciate the tiny size of these things, here's one with a size reference:
Dem's some tiny, tiny eggs.
Okay, that brings us up to date on all the various animals around the homestead. Anyone who wasn't mentioned is doing just fine.
