The Crew

Axl & Lola Brother and sister pitbull/sharpei mixes. Just about 1 year old and very, very high energy. Axl has some fear issues that we are trying to work through and Lola is way too smart.

Mr. P, Ricci, and Tweety - Ringneck parakeets. All three talk up a storm, I'm just waiting for them to start talking to each other.

Sherlock - A mustached parakeet. He's about 8 months old and we are unsure he's a he. I guess we'll find out.

The Rest of the Crew

Chubs and Kiko - a pair of cockatiels that have yet to produce viable eggs.

The Parakeets - we began with a pair of English Budgies but one got out. We then adopted 2 white parakeets to keep the English company. They had 3 babies. The English is blue & known as Rocky, while the white ones are indistinguishable and collectively called the Angels.

It's always something

Nala just had another seizure. She's on kind of high doses of phenobarbital and I don't know what more we can do. I know there is more medicine we can put her on but, the way I see it, the longer we can put those off the longer she'll be around. It's possible I'm fooling myself.

It's so hard having older dogs. If it's not one it's the other. It is really, really difficult. I can completely understand how people get into these positions where they are providing extraordinary care to loved ones. If you had told me I would be cleaning poop up from a dog who can't control it and helping him up and down stairs and holding a dog while they have a seizure, I would have told you that you were crazy. But these things creep up on you slowly. First Rocco had a hard time walking. So we helped him. Then he started losing control of his bowels. So we clean it up. Then it got harder for him to walk. So we helped him more. Then Nala went lame in one leg. So we helped her. Then she started having seizures. So we hold her till it's over. If suddenly I had to do all these things I might fight it, but it creeps up one thing at a time until you're doing a whole ton of stuff for your animals. {{Sigh}}

So there we have it, another seizure. The seizure lasted about 40 seconds and the recovery lasted 2 1/2 minutes. Now, it's off to bed for everyone.

    Oh I'm so sorry... what a hard thing to have to go through. :( It's so sad when our dogs get old.

    My thoughts are with you.
