A little about the crew

I'm head zoo keeper at the home of 2 dogs and 6 birds. The cast of characters are:

Rocco - a 13 year old Golden mix suffering from arthritis of the spine.

Nala - a 12 year old pit bull suffering from the effects of undiagnosed hip dysplaysia, and has now started having seizures. Reason unknown.

Sam - a 25 year old umbrella cockatoo. He has some confidence and security issues we are dealing with.

The rest of the crew

Chubs and Kiko - a pair of cockatiels that have yet to produce viable eggs.

Peanut - aka Mr. P. An Indian Ringneck that we do not know the sex of but we like the sound of Mr. P and apparently he does to. He has started talking and is turning out to be a real chatterbox.

Juliet and Rock Star - a pair of English Budgies that only like my husband and tend to make a lot of noise.

all for your kind comments on Rocco. Only other animal lovers know what it's like to face the end of a beloved pets life.

The good news is Rocco is responding to the prednisone. I know it's not a cure but at least it will help him feel better for a while. I have to dig up and scan the old pictures of Rocco. When I got him he weighed 4 lbs and fit in the palm of my hand. He now weighs 80 lbs and doesn't fit anywhere :) He is also the only one of his litter to survive. His litter were 7 boys that all looked exactly the same, that was weird. All of the others were dead before they were a year old. They all died of parvo since the owners didn't take them to the vet. We found Rocco and decided to keep him and the first thing was a trip to the vet.

I'm starting to get all weepy thinking of losing him. I better get back to work.
